You Had a Feeling…
Even though you thought it could happen, you didn’t think it would. You didn’t think your life could be turned upside down by hearing the words Heart Attack, Open Heart Surgery, and Recovery. You’re too young for this. Yeah, the doctors mentioned high cholesterol levels and something about watching your sugar, but it was easier not to heed the warnings until it created the perfect storm. Now, you are newly diagnosed with heart disease, overwhelmed, broken, and searching for answers.
Now What?
You decide that your health is worth it. You dig down deep, and find the grit and grace to decide that this second chance at life shouldn’t be taken lightly. You want to be able to spend more time doing what you love to do with the people that mean the most to you.
What If…
- You were able to play with your kids without feeling winded?
- You didn’t feel stuck wondering what you could or couldn’t eat?
- You were able to minimize the need for medications?
- You were finally able to get back to your college playing weight?
- You could see real, actual progress that you could measure?
But How?
With the right tools, resources, and accountability, of course! If you’re done wasting time piecing together information, trying to make sense of conflicting advice on your own, and need someone in your corner, then you’ve come to the right place!
Cardiologists help repair your heart from the outside, in, but you need someone to help repair from the inside, out. Check out any evidenced-based guideline, and you’d be hard-pressed to find one that doesn’t include nutrition as the foundation for the prevention and treatment of heart disease. And for good reason! A cardio-protective dietary pattern can positively impact your cholesterol numbers, assist with balancing blood sugars, and improve your cardiovascular health.

TESTIMONIALS
“Before working with Heather, I felt lost, not knowing if I could improve my health. After working with Heather, I feel confident and successful in that my improved diet has significantly improved my health.
I lost 20 lbs after following Heather’s plan and also improved my A1c from 9.5 to 7.1%.
I highly recommend Heather. She is knowledgeable and consistently pleasant and patient.”
“I could not have done this on my own. Heather has been my angel in this process. She has watched over me and provided solid advice in creating a lifestyle that I can enjoy and not one I regret.
My eating habits have changed, and I am eating healthier foods, and I don’t think I could ever go back to the way I did before. Not only because it is unhealthy, but because my body will not let me. I have seen a lot of sickness and what an unhealthy lifestyle can do to a person, and just finding someone devoted to the field like Heather has placed my mind at ease.”
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do you only provide virtual nutrition sessions?
Yes. My practice is 100% virtual.
Do you accept insurance?
Currently, I’m an in-network provider for Aetna, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, Cigna, United Healthcare, Oxford Health, and Medicare. If you have insurance that I am considered out of network with, full payment is required at time of visit.
$150: 90 Minute Initial Session
$75: 45 Minute Follow Up Session
What if I don’t live in New Jersey? Can I still book a virtual telehealth session with you?
Licensure for Registered Dietitians varies by state. Currently, I am able to provide nutrition services to clients in the following states:
- New Jersey
- Alaska
- Arizona
- California
- Connecticut
- Colorado
- Hawaii
- Idaho
- Massachusetts
- Michigan
- New Hampshire
- Oklahoma
- Pennsylvania
- Utah
- Vermont
- Virginia
- West Virginia
- Wisconsin
- Wyoming
Why do you need a credit card on file when you accept my insurance?
Great question! A credit card is required on file to hold your initial session appointment and because sometimes, people don’t show up to their virtual sessions or they forget they had an appointment. I get it. Even though we plan and set reminders, life happens! I will try my best to accommodate you. However, when you miss a session, that is a spot that I can no longer fill. It’s a vacant, lonely, missed opportunity for someone who was hoping for a nutrition session. If you need to reschedule your appointment or think there is a possibility you may not be able to make it, all I ask for is at least 24 hours advance notice.
Your credit card will ONLY be charged under the following circumstances:
- No Show
- Late Cancellation within 24 hours of Session
- Copay or Deductible
- Payment for additional services not reimbursable by insurance that you had authorized
Why “Welding Wellness”?
To weld something means to “fuse and bond, join together, or cause to combine and form a harmonious or effective whole.” Welding can be done in any circumstance; uniting to create something greater than its individual parts. Wellness is the sum of emotional, social, spiritual, physical and mental health. It is my mission to help men with heart disease weld all aspects of wellness together to build a stronger, healthier, and happier life.
What types of service does my insurance cover?
Currently, insurance payors only cover face-to-face interactions (i.e. telehealth sessions), and anything above and beyond that isn’t covered at this time. Additional services that are not covered by insurance include:
- Communication between sessions
- Food and mood journal review and feedback
- Meal Plans
- Personalized resources and educational materials
Although these services are not reimbursable by insurance, I feel that they can be beneficial to you for the extra feedback, encouragement, and accountability that you were looking for. For my clients, I’ve observed that it’s in-between sessions where they seem to feel like their course to greatness is going awry. It’s why I created Add-On Services to help supplement what insurance doesn’t cover and help you continue to achieve your goals and get results. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
How do I know if Medical Nutrition Therapy and/or Preventative Services are covered by insurance?
In order to determine if nutrition counseling is covered by your plan, you can call to verify your insurance benefits. Simply call the phone number on the back of your insurance card and follow my Health Insurance Verification Guide to ask the Insurance Representative.
Most plans cover 100% of preventative services with little to no cost to you as well as no copay or deductible. Medicare and Medicare Advantage Plans ONLY cover a diagnosis of Diabetes and Chronic Kidney Disease at this time. Unfortunately, you will not be able to utilize Medicare for nutrition counseling if you do not have one of these specified conditions.
